Well, that was an expensive lesson for Ford.
If you haven’t heard by now, Pinto means ‘Small Penis’ in Portuguese. (Sorry for talking about 🍆 right now, but I promise there’s a reason).
Ford didn’t do their research on this, which I guess, is kind of fair enough… but it was an expensive mistake.
They struggled to sell their Ford Pinto’s in Brazil because of this. They had to rebrand and rename to ‘Corcel’ which essentially means stallion/horse, which then led to WAY, way more sales. (On ya’ Ford!)
So, anyway, thanks to Ford, we’ve really made sure to understand our clients’ audience 10000 times over, before we post anything.
On a semi unrelated note, you should look up the Cuba Skywriting incident involving Coca Cola.
