Instagram Launches AMBER Alerts to Save Children’s Lives

Instagram launches AMBER alerts, allowing netizens to share notices of missing children in their area and increasing the chances of finding them.

The alert will appear on users’ Instagram feed if there’s an active search in their area. It will include information about the missing child, their image, description, location of the abduction, and other available info at the time.

This feature started rolling out on Instagram on the 1st of June and will be fully available in 25 countries the next couple of weeks after its release.

“Instagram is a platform based on the power of photos, making it a perfect fit for the AMBER Alert program. We know that photos are a critical tool in the search for missing children, and by expanding the reach to the Instagram audience, we’ll be able to share photos of missing children with so many more people,” said Michelle DeLaune, President and CEO of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

AMBER Alerts have assisted in hundreds of successful children’s rescue and recovery since its launch on Facebook in 2015, and we’re hoping that Instagram’s move would significantly help in keeping children safe.

TikTok Tests Out Clear Mode

Tired of all the clutter on-screen while scrolling content on TikTok?

TikTok is testing a new feature called Clear Mode. This will allow its users to take a screenshot of their favorite content without all the on-screen clutter, such as captions, usernames, buttons, and more.

If you’re one of the select users included in the test, you can access the feature by long-pressing on a video and tapping the new Clear Mode option. It’s still in the testing phase so not everyone has access to the feature, and the company has yet to reveal any information about when it would be fully rolled out.

This would be a cool addition to the platform’s features giving users a distraction-free scrolling experience (making it even harder for us to stop procrastinating).

Messenger Gets the New ‘Calls’ Tab

Meta makes connecting with family and friends easier by adding the new “Calls” tab to Messenger. This update will be available for both iOS and Android users.

The new tab will appear alongside the “Chats”, “Stories”, and “People” tabs on the bottom navigation bar. This new feature allows users to dial friends directly with just a tap, making it more user-friendly, especially for those who are not familiar with the app’s calling features.

Meta said that the new feature is designed to create a space for people to deepen their relationships with others.

Meta Launches New Expression Tools and Resources for Pride Month

Meta launches new expression tools and resources that users can use in support and celebration of Pride month.

Users can now use camera stickers on Instagram, designed in partnership with queer, Brooklyn-based artist and creator Shanée Benjamin. They can also use pride-themed avatars and stickers in Feeds and Stories on Facebook and Messenger, which will be available year-round.

The company will also launch an exclusive new AR effect for Reels, Stories, and feed posts called “Show your skills”. This is in partnership with Broadway’s Tony Award-nominee & Pulitzer Prize-winner, A Strange Loop, and was created to guide fans through the audition process with fun twists.

They’re also introducing the LGBTQ+ Safety Center Hub on Facebook, which provides safety features including how to report harmful content, guides to improve account security, and tools to prevent bullying and harassment.

Celebrate and spread the love this Pride month through these cool features.

To all of my most treasured, loyal and unwavering supporters. We’ve been everywhere together, we have seen everything together. We have walked the same road together. We did the right thing together, all because you cared. And now, we will all move forward together. You are, as always, my employers and once again I am whittled down to no way to say thank you, other than just by saying thank you. So, thank you. My love & respect, JD
